Vanity Urbanity is a critique of the fashion + architecture + design magazines that perpetually sell the day-dream and identification through glossed editorial content of elsewhere's, always deemed more exotic than possibly accessible, at the cost of readers' relation to their own home turf. The expertise of the makeup artist, one who situates him/herself between the transitioning of self image and acceptance, is to reveal one's natural beauty; bringing to the surface the potential that hides underneath the depths of the skin/city. By appropriating the methodologies of the makeup artist to bolster confidence; the editorial director - hijacking the commoditizing and communicating means of the magazine; and the architect - understanding urban structure and design; this blog ad-dresses the socially, structurally, and economically blemished inner city and its current issue of housing foreclosures and quest for sustainability. Vanity Urbanity is a blog that is honest about the inner city's condition of economic aging, while offering a positive self-projecting view that sells back the image of city back it's inhabitants.
